Farewell, AWS Stash
Picture this: October 2015, my first week at AWS, sitting alone in the office while most of the team is at re:Invent. What started as a fun way to get familiar with AWS Lambda (not even 1 year old at the time) turned into quite the journey. From a simple YouTube video scraper called reinventvideos.com to a full-fledged AWS content search engine, AWS Stash has been my side project labor of love for nearly a decade.
The site evolved from basic jQuery + DataTables to what can only be described as a beautiful case of over-engineering—complete with enough AWS services to make a solutions architect’s promo doc proud. Along the way, it indexed over 100,000 videos, whitepapers, GitHub repos, and more—becoming a little corner of the internet where fellow AWS enthusiasts could actually find what they were looking for.
A huge shoutout to Qing for his incredible contributions to the development and maintenance of the site over the years. This wouldn’t have been possible without his help!
To everyone who used the site, submitted feedback, sent the occasional ’thanks!’ message, or even complained about search results (you were right, and I tried to fix it!)—thank you for making this worthwhile. Your support kept me motivated to keep improving and expanding what started as a quick fix for YouTube’s search limitations.
All good things must come to an end, but who knows? If you found this website useful and think the AWS community would benefit from its return, let me know by clicking the button button on the side. If there’s enough popular demand, maybe I’ll dust off the old Lambda functions and bring this baby back to life! 🚀
Thanks for all the memories,
Nick
